The official music video for Maverick City Music and Kirk Franklin’s new track “Bless Me” is now available. The clip, which serves as the latest offering from their upcoming album, ‘Kingdom Book 1’ (out 6.17), opens with the details of how the inspiring project came to be, before giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at its recording process, which took place at the Everglades Correctional Institution in Miami, FL, among 1,300 inmates and marked one of the largest prison events in US history.
“Bless Me” is an infectious celebration of life’s riches as they are — taking the time to recognize the gifts that have already been bestowed upon you rather than those that you need. “We’ve got all we need,” countless defiant voices say in stacks of conventional gospel harmonies.
Drum lines, snare rolls, and furious horns conjure up images of a football field or a pep rally, connecting these two settings of joy and powerful community. Rapid-fire hi-hat rolls and 808s give the tune a distinct current edge. “Bless Me” captures the exhilarating, invincible feeling of being encircled by your people and fortified by their love more than anything else.
This year is shaping up to be the most important yet for Maverick City Music’s youthful pioneers. The ensemble recently received a GRAMMY nomination for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album and performed a historic televised performance on the event. The group will take the music and movement behind ‘Kingdom Book 1’ on the road this summer with their headline ‘Kingdom Tour,’ alongside Franklin, after being nominated across four categories at the 2022 Billboard Music Awards, with triple nods in one category and receiving three 2022 K-Love Awards nominations earlier this week.
The tour began on June 1 at the SOLD OUT FTX Arena in Miami, and the long, 37-date excursion continues until the end of July.
