The GRAMMY Award-winning Maverick City Music headlined the 20s22 BET Award. They performed their massively successful joint single “Kingdom” as well as 16-time GRAMMY winner Kirk Franklin’s 1995 smash single “Melodies from Heaven.” The “famous” (BET) group then performed “I’ll Be Missing You,” the duo’s iconic chart-topper, alongside Diddy and Faith Evans.
Kirk Franklin, who received the Dr. Bobby Jones Best Gospel/Inspirational Award for his collaboration with Lil Baby, also invited Maverick City Music onto the stage for his victory speech. Not only did he praise the burgeoning, genre-blending prodigy, but he also urged the elder generation to transmit the mantle, while presenting his gospel crown to Maverick City Music and christening them the “Kings of Gospel.”
