Over the weekend, approximately 70,000 people came in Rio de Janeiro to hear Franklin Graham deliver a message of hope. The event, dubbed “Esperanca Rio,” or “Hope Rio,” was made possible by the efforts of almost 4,000 churches. Graham, President and CEO of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and Samaritan’s Purse, presented a straightforward Gospel message to the assembled congregation. According to CBN News, he declared, “The Bible states the value of the human soul is more than the value of the entire planet.” Assume you own all of the real estate on Copacabana Beach, including the hotels, luxury residences, and exquisite restaurants.
. Let’s pretend you had all of that–your spirit is worth far more than all of that–you are more valuable.”
He revealed why he came to Brazil after addressing the value of the soul, adding, “He loves each and every person, that He brought His Son Jesus Christ to this planet to save us from our sins.” Jesus Christ came not to condemn, but to save… This is the message I have come to deliver.”
Graham also socialized with local officials prior to the ceremony. “It was an honor to meet Rio de Janeiro Governor @ClaudioCastroRJ who came tonight, and I’m grateful to Brazil’s President @JairBolsonaro who sent a message of support,” he stated in a tweet.he said, “It was an honor to meet Rio de Janeiro Governor @ClaudioCastroRJ who came tonight, &I’m grateful to Brazil’s President @JairBolsonaro who sent a message of support. I appreciate that these leaders stand with the biblical definition of marriage & against abortion.”Vinicius Vargas, a pastor who helped bring “Esperanca Rio” about, recognized the immense blessing it was to the area. He said, “This is a great opportunity for us to continue to help each person know more about the love of Jesus Christ.” He also explained that the event was part of a coordinated effort to reach more people with the Gospel, saying, “We are determined to move forward to reach more people, care for those in our communities, and introduce Jesus Christ to everyone around us.”
The invitation at the end of the message drew thousands of responses. The counselors they spoke with at the event were just the start of their trip. According to the BEA, “the participating churches are now following up with the thousands of people who responded to the gospel call.”
Graham will be in the United Kingdom next month as part of his “God Loves You” Tour. He will share the stage with CeCe Winans, a 15-time Grammy winner, and Michael W. Smith, a three-time Grammy winner. The demonstration will take held in London on July 16th.
Graham’s message in London will be similar to the one he delivered in Brazil and other parts of the world: “If you remember nothing else, remember this – God loves you.”
