A newly signed Christian musician recently topped various music charts with her debut tune, which she wrote while in the midst of a personal health crisis. According to the Gospel Music Association, singer/songwriter Katy Nichole debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Christian Airplay and AC Indicator charts with her debut single “In Jesus Name (God of Possible)” last week. She also has a piano cover of the song.
“Making history,” Billboard wrote, “the song hits the Christian Airplay penthouse in its 12th week, completing the quickest voyage to No. 1 for a female artist’s maiden entry in the chart’s 19-year history.”
Nichole also shared on social media that YouTube named her “YouTube Trending Artist on the Rise” for her song’s music video.
“This is absolutely crazy and I’m extremely grateful!!” Nichole wrote on Instagram on Tuesday.
Nichole earned a record deal with Christian label Centricity Music after the song went popular on TikTok, as Christian Headlines previously reported. The worship hit was played on K-Love before it was signed, marking the first time in the Christian radio station’s 40-year history that it aired a song that went popular on social media.
Nichole revealed the song’s inspiration in an Instagram post last month, stating that it was inspired by her years-long battle with scoliosis.
“I was about to give up when God met me at my lowest point,” the singer confessed. “I heard Him say He wasn’t finished yet.”
Nichole had two scoliosis procedures, one in 2015 and another in 2018. During her 2018 surgery, she had all of her fusion removed.
“When I awoke after surgery, I saw the light for the first time. I felt the weight of my depression lift off of me “She remembered. “With the hardware gone, my spine was really straighter. Not only did God restore my life, but He also restored my purpose.”
According to CBN News, more than 150 million people worldwide have listened to “In Jesus Name (God of Possible),” and nearly 3 million watched the music video for the song on YouTube.
This summer, Nichole is scheduled for a number of solo events and concerts where she will perform with other Christian artists, including TobyMac, Danny Gokey, Jordan Feliz, Big Daddy Weave, and others.
